Plastic parts and a poor fitting case

Bought this spherical ball anvil mic for handloading, specifically to measure rifle case neck thickness. Heard a lot of good things about Mitutoyo but have to say I'm somewhat disappointed. The mic has a decent feel to it and will do what I need it to do, but the feel and build quality does not rank anywhere near that of any Starrett mic that I've used. The ratchet knob on the thimble is plastic, as is the spindle lever lock. The micrometer rattles around inside the Mitutoyo branded plastic case; a bit of padding in the case would have been nice.

It's a Mitutoyo micrometer....of course it's high quality, high accuracy, & gets the job done it was built to do. Mitutoyo has a 1up on Starrett when it comes to micrometer scales. Mitutoyo always gives you the tenths increments as a standard. Starrett rarely puts them on their micrometer scales. If you want them, you have to call Starrett and then they charge you for a custom tool. I did this once and it made my micrometer non returnable/non refundable, I had to wait 2 to 3 months to receive the tool, & I even had to pay a hefty extra charge to have this done. Never again! It's Mitutoyo for a
